Tony told Jordan that UWaterloo is central to creating a unique ecosystem that integrates innovative institutions, multinational companies, startups and a talent pool largely fed by its co-op program. “This ecosystem,” he shared, “facilitates the seamless flow of knowledge and technology across education, research and business – something that not many other locations can claim.”

The university’s ability to attract entrepreneurs and global corporations, such as Bosch, demonstrates its key role in attracting global investments to the region, thereby boosting the economy.

Finally, Tony commented on the anticipated population growth in Waterloo and the opportunities it presents for building a more robust and prosperous community. He advocated for investing in local academic institutions like UWaterloo, saying, “By investing in universities, we’re also investing in the future of our economy.”

Closing on an optimistic note, Tony spoke about the importance of creating a dynamic and inclusive community with affordable housing and modern city infrastructure to drive continued growth and attract skilled workers.
